Hydrogen Refuelling Station Process Design

Detail design of the process systems for HWR's first hydrogen refuelling station, serving one of New Zealand's largest truck fleets.

The Challenge

HWR runs one of the largest truck fleets in New Zealand and is developing its own hydrogen co-fuelling technology for diesel engines, so heavy fleets can decarbonise progressively using existing infrastructure. Its first refuelling station needed process systems designed to production standard.

Our Response

Since 2022, working through a local partner, Amarna has developed the detailed designs and engineering documents for all process plant downstream of the electrolysers to the hydrogen dual-fuelled trucks. That includes LP and HP storage vessels, compression, cooling and dispensing, plus the gas panels and instrumentation, which are now installed.

The Impact

Once operational, the 2 MW station will refuel HWR's own fleet, giving the business a working platform for hydrogen in heavy transport.
