Liquid Hydrogen Mine Haul Truck HAZOPs

HAZOP facilitation for a liquid hydrogen powered mine haul truck and auxiliary power unit, plus support for the liquefaction facility.

The Challenge

Fortescue is working to decarbonise mining equipment, including a mine haul truck and auxiliary power unit that both run on liquid hydrogen. Systems this new need a rigorous, structured look at what could go wrong.

Our Response

Working through Fortescue's supplier Fabrum, Amarna supported the liquefaction facility and facilitated the HAZOP studies for the haul truck and auxiliary power unit, from the liquid hydrogen inlet through to the fuel cells.

The Impact

Hazards identified and actioned early on first-of-kind zero-emission mining equipment.
